One of the theories of origin Shih-Tzu is that he developed as a separate breed in Tibet, and was not obtained as a result of crossing with other small breeds of Asian origin, short muzzle. But, for this theory lacks evidence. It is believed that its main development and final design of breeds is actually experiencing the imperial courts of China, where a veil of secrecy of the Forbidden City. The assumption is, however, that the Shih-tzu there crossed with BOPS and Pekingese. Name Shih-Tzu means "lion". It is assumed that the Tibetan lamas leaders supported the development tendency of the breed that is more like a lion and probably the best selection, the selected specimens became honorary gifts to Chinese emperors. Get a gift lion dog was a great honor. The existence of the breed we know today can thank the Chinese Empress Tzu Hsi who was world famous for growing breed Pug, Pekingese, and Shih-Tzu. Big fan of the Shih-Tzu, meticulously maintained three imperial breeds separate, to prevent interbreeding. However, the eunuchs, who have cared for dogs, secretly crossed the breeds in order to get less and better specimens, unusual, of favorable mark on the hair. Specimens which deviate from the wishes of the Empress in the cultivation had been killed, but they are often secretly sold. Many superstitions are associated with the color and markings of the coat. Happy tags could bring the reputation of the family, and each color had its own value. In the production were encouraged, and 32 superior label is, for example, white blaze on his head, jaw like a lion, and highly valued gold color hair, etc. The labels on the back of a saddle, were especially appreciated because of identification with the Buddha. Specifically, it was believed that the Buddha was constantly in the company of a small dog, who at the time could turn into a lion by the Buddha then rode. After the death of the Empress 1908.g, dog breeding was no longer controlled, and many specimens were donated or sold to prominent Chinese families and a high foreign officials. Breed after the Communist revolution 1949.g almost extinguished. Fortunately, diplomats who have spent time in China, returning to Europe they brought with them and their Shih-Tzue. In the UK, the breed was the first time it was registered under the name of Lhasa Terrier. In America there is also disagreement with the systematization of the Tibetan breeds, the Shih-Tzu is an independent breed AKC recognized only in 1969 and soon after he won BIS at the prestigious Westminster show and became popular.
